LAHA Committee On Environment pays oversight visit to Lagos Water Corporation*

_….visits Ishasi Waterwork and others to assess work progress_

In its bid to ensure Water runs in every home of Lagos Residents, the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Environment paid an oversight visit to the Lagos Water Corporation Headquarter in Ijora on Wednesday 10th July, 2024.

The Managing Drector Lagos Water Corporation Engr Mukhtaar Tijani , the Executive Director Operations Engr Omolanke Taiwo and some Management Staff of LWC received the Assembly Members ably led by the Chairman House Committee on Environment Parastatals Honourable Adebola Shabi.

Speaking at the meeting was the Chairman House Committee on Environment Parastatals, Honourable Adebola Shabi who made it known that the issue of unavailability of Water supply in most houses of the State is of great concern to the House Members as they are representative of the People of the State and must ensure that their interests and rights were protected.

The Chairman therefore, asked the MD LWC Engr. Mukhtaar Tijani to give the Team a comprehensive reports of all the ongoing infrastructural projects and the challenges LWC is having on the production of Water supply.

In his response, the Managing Director LWC, Engr Mukhtaar made it known that he has not been sleeping on his oars but rather doing the needful to ensure Water runs in most homes in the State.
He sighted the Baruwa Community connection to Mosan Okunola Waterworks as one of the steps he has taken in the last few weeks to ensure People of Baruwa and its environs enjoy Water supply.

In support of the Statement made by the MD, the Executive Director Operations, Engr Mrs Omolanke Taiwo thanked the Honourable Members for deeming it fit to check on the Corporation and for all the supports the Assembly Members have given the Corporation in the past.

She also said that they have been doing the needful to ensure Water runs in most homes of the State but the challenges is that People are not ready to pay for Water which is already subsidised by the State Government .

Mrs Taiwo further said that, “the billing given to customers now is an old rate of about 10years back but yet they are complaining that it is too high”

She therefore said that the Corporation is planning to metre all her Customers so that the Water produced can be accountable for.

Immediately after the meeting, the Honourable Members together with MD LWC and some LWC Management Staff proceeded to Ishasi Waterworks for Projects inspection.

It should be recorded that the Inspection of the Major waterworks that is Iju, Adiyan and Akute Intakes will be done on Thursday 11th July, 2024 by the Honourable Members Committee on Environment together with MD LWC Engr Mukhtaar Tijani and some Management Staff of LWC.
