Lagos Water Corporation Renews Commitment to Consistent Water Supply
Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) has reaffirmed its dedication to continuously and dependably supply clean water to Lagos residents.
The Corporation acknowledges the recent water supply challenges faced by residents in the state and is committed to swiftly addressing them.
In a statement released today by the newly appointed Managing Director of LWC, Engr. Mukhtaar Tijani, the agency expressed its understanding of the frustration and inconvenience experienced by residents and conveyed heartfelt apologies for any difficulties this situation may have caused.
The shortage of water supply, Engr. Tijani revealed, can be attributed to a combination of factors, and including inconsistent power supply and aging infrastructure leading to water leaks from the pressure exerted when water flows through the pipes. He noted that reports of extensive leaks and pipe failures have been received from various areas in the state, resulting in a substantial loss of water resources and service interruptions.
Engr. Tijani also highlighted that irregular power supply significantly affects the agency’s ability to provide a continuous water service. Frequent power outages he disclosed, have disrupted the water pumping and distribution processes, resulting in reduced water supply.
Despite these challenges, Engr. Tijani emphasized LWC’s unwavering commitment to promptly and effectively address these issues. He revealed that a comprehensive action plan is already in place to guarantee residents a reliable and uninterrupted water supply.
“We are launching a crucial infrastructure renewal program to repair or replace deteriorating infrastructure, thereby enhancing water supply to our residents,” stated Engr. Tijani. Additionally, the agency is exploring investments in backup power solutions to mitigate the impact of power outages on water supply, ensuring uninterrupted services, even during power disruptions.
Engr. Tijani stressed the importance of community engagement, urging residents to promptly report any leakages they observe, as this proactive approach will enable the Corporation to take immediate action to prevent permanent damage.
Engr. Tijani credited the administration of Governor Olusola Sanwoolu for its unwavering support and commitment to ensuring residents have access to clean and consistent potable water. Notable efforts he owned, include the rehabilitation of major waterworks in Iju, Adiyan, and Akute Intakes.
He also disclosed that the Adiyan Phase II water project, designed to serve approximately 3 million residents in the western axis of the state, has reached an impressive 85% completion rate.
The Managing Director reiterated his commitment to enhancing the resilience of the agency’s infrastructure to ensure residents have reliable access to water services.
He encouraged residents to stay informed about LWC’s updates through its official website and social media channels
