The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has strengthened its operational presence across Lagos State ahead of the Easter celebrations, deploying additional personnel and logistics to manage the expected surge in human and vehicular movement.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, issued the advisory, urging motorists and road users to exercise caution and comply strictly with traffic regulations during the festive period.

He warned against reckless driving habits such as driving under the influence of alcohol, overspeeding, and dangerous overtaking, noting that such actions often lead to avoidable road accidents, loss of lives, and property damage.

Bakare-Oki stressed that no celebration should come at the expense of public safety.

To ensure smooth traffic flow, LASTMA has positioned additional officers at strategic locations, including major highways, transport terminals, intersections, business districts, recreational centres, and religious venues across the state’s five divisions.

The deployed personnel have been tasked with intensifying monitoring, enforcing traffic laws, and responding promptly to incidents on the roads.

The agency has also pre-positioned tow trucks, traffic cones, safety barriers, and other equipment to quickly address breakdowns and reduce disruptions.

According to Bakare-Oki, the enhanced deployment reflects the agency’s commitment to maintaining safe and efficient movement throughout the Easter period.

He appealed to motorists to remain patient, obey traffic officials, and prioritise safety at all times, warning that negligence could lead to serious consequences.

The LASTMA boss also called on commercial drivers, transport unions, fleet operators, and logistics companies to sensitise their members on the dangers of overloading, speeding, and substance abuse.

He reaffirmed LASTMA’s readiness to ensure seamless traffic management during the celebrations and encouraged the public to report traffic violations and emergencies for prompt intervention.
