Lagos To Prosecute Five Residents Over Environmental Infractions

The Lagos State Government is set to prosecute five individuals for indulging in acts that contravene the stipulations of environmental laws in the metropolis.

The State through it’s Waste Management Authority agency, LAWMA, conducted an enforcement at Ajasa Command area in a 15-hour exercise and arrested the violators.

The initiative was said to be targeted at significant waste blackspots in the vicinity. According to reports, the arrestees: Abidemi Aworinde, Ijoko Margaret, one Osayande, Faith Okoro and Latifah Alabi are being held at the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, LAGESC, for further legal proceedings.

The state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, also informed that a 70-year-old, Kayode Otitoju, was caught red-handed vandalizing an ongoing fence project by the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources at Lekki Phase 1 canal setback.

Wahab stressed that public infrastructures are are put in place for the protection of lives and property and it’s sabotage is against the law.

One Paul Agwu, has also been caught while emptying refuse into the canal in Oshodi.

The Commissioner said that the unlawful act by the 43-year-old is a recipe for flooding, especially during the ongoing raining season.

“We will never tolerate this reckless endangerment of communities,” Wahab said.

” All violators will face immediate prosecution. To others doing this: Your arrest is inevitable.”
