The Lagos SUBEB BEQA retreat, themed “Revitalization of BEQA Officers’ Skills for Quality Service Delivery in Lagos State Basic Education Sector,” took place at Jubilee Chalet, Epe, Lagos, from Friday, July 12th to Monday, July 15th, 2024, and was marked by resounding success.
The opening ceremony was chaired by the Executive Chairman of Lagos SUBEB, Dr. Shittu Hakeem Babatunde, and hosted by Permanent Board Member Mr. Owolabi Jamiu Falana. Other distinguished guests included Senior Special Assistants to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Mr. Giwa Moore and Mr. Kappo Samuel, and Board Secretary Mr. Hakeem Lamidi. The event also featured awards recognizing top-performing personnel of the Board who have made significant contributions to the growth and development of the BEQA Department.
The retreat aimed to enhance the skills of BEQA Officers to improve quality service delivery in the Basic Education sector through a series of technical sessions. Notable sessions included:
—“Ethics in Public Service” and “Investigation Process” by Mrs. Babarinde Olayemi Olufunke, Director of Education.
—“Global Perspective in Education Quality Assurance” by Dr. Oluranti Samuel from Lagos State University.
—“Overview of BEQA Department” by Mrs. Alajiki Eunice Folashade, Head of BEQA Department.
—“Effective Report Writing” by Mrs. Akingbade Kikelomo Adilat, Director of Education.
—“School Monitoring Procedure” by Mr. Ogunbiyi Temitope John, Director of Education.
—“Technology Integration to Education Quality Assurance and Data Analysis” by Dr. Olaleye, Head of the Department of Education Technology at Lagos State University of Education.
—“Quality Assurance Mechanism” by Mr. Abolaji Abolanle Abayomi, Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, represented by Mr. Adekunle, Director of Education and Quality Assurance Expert from Education District V.
The retreat also included Aerobic, Sports, and Recreational sessions led by internationally trained Sport Management Expert Dr. Ibrahim Wahab Fola, aimed at promoting fitness and a positive mindset among BEQA Officers. Additional facilitators included Nneka Anozie and Omoleye Balogun.
The retreat underscored the importance of ethics, effective report writing, monitoring procedures, technology integration, quality assurance mechanisms, financial management, and daily exercise in enhancing service delivery in the Basic Education sector. The Gala Night provided an opportunity for officers to socialize and interact beyond the workplace.
During an interactive session with the Executive Chairman SUBEB, Dr. Shittu Babatunde Hakeem, best practices and commendable performances among BEQA Officers were celebrated, and challenges hindering effective work delivery were discussed with suggestions for improvement provided.
