Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, the Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, has described the successful hosting of the Eyo Festival 2025 as a historic milestone, highlighting Lagos’ rich cultural heritage and global appeal. On the sidelines of the festival, he praised the grandeur and peaceful conduct of the event, commending traditional institutions, cultural stakeholders, security agencies, and residents for ensuring a vibrant and well-coordinated celebration.
According to Hon. Johnson, Eyo 2025 showcased Lagos as a city where history, culture, and modern life coexist harmoniously. Beyond its spectacle, he noted, the festival remains a symbol of unity and identity for Lagosians, connecting generations and preserving indigenous values while promoting the city as a globally recognized cultural destination.
The chairman emphasized the festival’s economic impact, noting that the influx of local and international visitors boosted hospitality, transportation, creative industries, and small-scale businesses. He highlighted that events like Eyo foster social cohesion and instill pride in cultural heritage, particularly among the youth.
Reaffirming his commitment to grassroots development, Hon. Johnson pledged continued support for initiatives that leverage culture and tourism as engines of economic growth. He called for stronger public–private partnerships to enhance tourism infrastructure, cultural branding, and community engagement. As he stated, “With deliberate planning and collective ownership, festivals like Eyo will not only preserve our heritage but also drive economic growth, positioning Lagos as a leading cultural tourism hub in Africa.”
