The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office, LSWMO, has restricted activities at a realtor company, Viva Bella Court II, over environmental pollution.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, stated that the shut down of the firm was due to persistent emptying of it’s septic tanks of untreated wastewater into the drainage causing offensive odour in it’s surroundings.
Wahab mentioned that the pollution by the establishment, located in Lekki Peninsula in Eti-Osa area of the state, severely affected nearby residents.
In a post on his X handle on Sunday, the Commissioner stressed on the importance of responsible wastewater management and proper hygiene practices. The post reads: “The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) sealed off Viva Bella Court II, Lekki Peninsula, Eti-Osa, Lagos, for deliberate discharge of untreated wastewater into the drains via a laid pipe and having an overfilled septic tank spilling to the environment. The continuous deliberate emptying of the septic tanks has been causing the reported foul smell in the surrounding area. This is an act of environmental nuisance, pollution, degradation and endangering of human health.
“Lagosians are advised to embrace proper wastewater management and hygiene practices to enhance public health and environmental sustainability, as such acts portend grave dangers to public health and will be meted out with the appropriate sanctions.”
