The Lagos State Government has sealed a lounge over contravention of environmental laws which has caused public unrest in it’s surroundings.
Through its Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA, the facility identified as Dimple Berry located in Lekki area was shut following on Tuesday following multiple verified complaints of persistent noise pollution by nearby residents.
The agency stated that the enforcement was acted in line with the agency’s wider crackdown on environmental violations across Lagos, especially in residential and mixed-use areas.
LASEPA General Manager, Babatunde Ajayi, mentioned that the agency issued cautions to the firm which were not complied to.
“We had no choice but to seal the premises after the operators ignored repeated warnings,” Ajayi relayed.
” This action is necessary to safeguard the health and well-being of residents in Lekki and to reinforce compliance with environmental regulations.
“The lounge was given ample opportunity to install soundproofing equipment or reduce noise levels, but no meaningful effort was made.”
“LASEPA’s commitment to enforcing environmental standards remains unshaken,” the agency’s head added.
“We urge all entertainment and hospitality businesses to adopt noise-reduction technologies and align their operations with state guidelines.
“LASEPA remains dedicated to fostering a serene and healthy environment for all Lagos residents,” he concluded.
