Presidential aide and outspoken social commentator, Reno Omokri, has expressed sympathy toward Dr. Okafor, whose vehicle was reportedly vandalized in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

While condemning the incident, Omokri criticized what he described as biased reporting and attempts by certain individuals to portray Lagos as unsafe based solely on the event.

He argued that it is misleading to label Lagos as insecure, especially when it was recently ranked 19th globally and 2nd in Africa by Time Out Magazine, a renowned global media and entertainment brand that highlights the best urban experiences.

Referencing the magazine’s 2025 ranking, Omokri emphasized that the evaluation was based on nightlife culture and the opinions of thousands of city residents as well as expert reviewers. The report noted that nightlife around the world is evolving, and Lagos stood out for its vibrant, safe, and dynamic urban environment.

In a post shared via his verified Facebook account, Omokri wrote, “Let me just say that Lagos is the safest major city in Nigeria. You can go about your business from Monday to Friday without harassment. The state also offers subsidized, world-class public transportation to both indigenes and residents.”

He further denounced the politicization of the vandalism incident, stating, “Three days ago, Dr. Okafor’s car was vandalized in Lekki. In response, he claimed that ‘Lagos is not safe.’ That comment went viral and quickly became a talking point among opposition voices, particularly the Obidient movement.”

Omokri then drew a comparison with a recent tragic case in Anambra State, where a young entrepreneur named Ifesinachi Onyekere was kidnapped and later killed. He pointed out that the same critics who amplified the Lekki incident have remained silent on the Anambra case, questioning the inconsistency in their outrage.

He concluded by saying, “To live in Lagos, benefit from its world-class infrastructure, relative peace, and economic opportunities, qualities that earned it global recognition yet attempt to discredit the city is a betrayal of the hospitality extended to all Nigerians by the state and its people.”
