Lagos Polo Club Turns to Alakija for Next Chapter of Excellence

Adeyemo Alakija has been elected President of the Lagos Polo Club following the 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) held last Thursday in Ikoyi, Lagos.
During the inauguration of the new executive committee for the 2025/2026 session, Alakija pledged to uphold the club’s longstanding principles.
Other elected executive members include Mr. Tunji Ashiru as 1st Vice President and Mr. Kunle Tinubu as 2nd Vice President. Mr. Adeyemi Oreagba was named Honorary Secretary, and Mr. Olumide Soyombo was chosen as Honorary Treasurer. Mr. Mohammed S. Dangote will serve as Polo Captain, and Ms. Naomi Durosaro as Pony Welfare Member.
Additional committee members are Mr. Yinka Alakija (Grounds), Mr. OluMayowa Ogunnusi (Stable and Surrounds), Mr. Hakeem Adeniji-Adele (Bar), Mr. Olumbe Akinkugbe (Staff Welfare), Mr. Ade Dania (Catering), Mr. Tunde Aka-Bashorun (Social), and Mr. Fred Allison (Other Games).
In his address, Alakija thanked the Trustees, former presidents, members, staff, and management, committing to a leadership style grounded in respect, unity, and transparency. He emphasized the importance of collaboration and shared goals as the foundation of the club’s success.
Outgoing President Mr. Bode Makanjuola reflected on a successful 2024/2025 season, highlighting the club’s achievements, including becoming continental champions.
He also noted the celebration of 120 years of polo at the club and the Nigeria Polo Association’s 100th anniversary, with appreciation for sponsors like GT Bank, Veuve Clicquot, and Stanbic IBTC.
Newly appointed Honorary Secretary Mr. Oreagba affirmed the committee’s dedication to preserving the club’s heritage and advancing its mission with integrity and diligence.
