In a bid to enhance healthcare delivery and raise community health awareness, Lagos State Health District III held pivotal engagement sessions with stakeholders in Ibeju-Lekki and Epe Local Government Areas.
The events aimed to address pressing Public Health challenges and underscore the importance of utilising government health facilities among residents.
The engagement in Ibeju-Lekki took place at the Ayeteju Primary Health Care Centre while the session in Epe was held at the Local Government Secretariat.
The events attracted key figures from the Local Government Health Authorities, World Health Committee Chairmen, market women, and other community stakeholders.
The Permanent Secretary of Health, District III, Dr. Monsurat Adeleke stressed the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles, preventive care, and early intervention to combat the burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases.
She particularly encouraged women to patronise government-owned health centres during pregnancy and warned against the dangers of patronising unregistered Traditional Birth Attendance (TBA) homes, which contribute to high maternal mortality rates.
“It is imperative that we educate our women on the risks associated with unregistered TBAs and the benefits of delivering in well-equipped health facilities”, Dr. Adeleke stated.
She highlights ongoing government initiatives aimed at improving healthcare services, includes the training of healthcare workers and the provision of essential medical supplies.
Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki LGA, Egnr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa reiterated his commitment to the health sector, highlights the renovation of the Primary Health Care Centre in Awoyaya and the upgrading of facilities in Orimedu, Debojo, and Solu Alade.
He emphasised the importance of empowering women to make informed healthcare choices and expressed his determination to work closely with Health District III towards a healthier Ibeju-Lekki.
The Chairman of Epe Local Government, Princess Surah Olayemi Animashaun echoed the same sentiments during the session at the Epe Local Government Secretariat. She praised the efforts of Health District III in bringing essential health services closer to the grassroots and pledged continued support to improve the healthcare infrastructure in Epe.
“We are committed to ensure that our health facilities meet the highest standards and are accessible to all residents, especially women and children”, the Council Boss affirmed.
