The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing the state’s housing deficit in 2026, with plans to deliver additional residential units across various locations.
The Commissioner for Housing, Mr Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, gave the assurance during a review of the ministry’s activities for 2025. He highlighted the successful completion and commissioning of the Akinsanya Sunny Ajose and Abraham Adesanya Housing Schemes, Parcels A and B, as key milestones achieved during the year.
Akinderu-Fatai stated that the timely completion of all housing projects currently at different stages of development remains a top priority for the administration, in line with the vision of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the coming year.
He urged heads of departments and project teams to ensure that work across all construction sites reflects proper planning, strict adherence to quality standards and excellence in execution.
“We must collectively intensify our efforts to ensure that Sangotedo Phase II, Egan-Igando Clusters II and III, Ibeshe Phase II, as well as all joint venture housing projects, are completed and ready for commissioning by Mr Governor,” the commissioner said.
He added that the ministry would continue to strengthen collaboration with key stakeholders, including private developers and financial institutions, to ensure the seamless delivery of housing initiatives in line with the state government’s THEMES Plus development agenda.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing, Mr Abdulhafis Toriola, emphasised the importance of diligence, fairness and integrity in public service. He urged staff to carry out their duties with commitment, professionalism and a strong sense of responsibility.
Toriola noted that during the ministry’s New Year prayer session with management and staff, a renewed commitment was made to expand access to decent, safe, affordable and sustainable housing for residents of the state.
He further disclosed that the state government, in line with the mandate of the ministry and the provisions of the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (LASRERA) Law, is intensifying efforts to address the growing challenge of abandoned buildings across Lagos.
According to him, existing legal frameworks will be deployed to facilitate the completion of abandoned properties, a move expected to boost housing supply, improve the urban environment and enhance public safety.
He recalled that the Sanwo-Olu administration has delivered more than 12,000 housing units to beneficiaries across the state in the past six years.
