Lagos Govt Hints on Digitising Eyo, Other Cultural Festivals
The Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture, LSCAC, has revealed plans to digitise its cultural festivals and activate its heritage sites.
One of the popular festivals in Lagos is Eyo, which will be promoted through modern technology.
The Chief Executive Officer of the council, Mr. Idowu Johnson disclosed this at the Lagos Start-up.23 week held at Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island.
He said that the state would focus on four major areas that would help harness the rich indigenous culture of Lagos and also bring about sustainable cultural promotion.
Lagos Start-up.23 week is a technology based and is a game changer in the cultural world and speaks to collaboration and new beginnings.
According to Johnson, the focal areas will include the identification and activation of key heritage sites across the State, digitising the cultural festivals in Lagos, strong alliance with relevant stakeholders on cultural matters and the using technology to promote culture and tourism in Lagos.
He stated that the four official colours of Lagos State would be used to depict the four focal areas which are Red, Blue, Yellow and Green.
“The Red colour will involve the identification and activation of key heritage sites, Blue entails digitising the cultural festivals in Lagos so that visitors and cultural enthusiasts are aware of the festivals all year round.
“Yellow implies organising a stakeholders’ roundtable that would afford the Government and actors in the creative industries the opportunity to brainstorm on how to move the State creative industry forward while the Green will focus on using technology to promote culture and tourism in Lagos,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Council has drawn up a Tourism masterplan to involve the younger generation so as to further enhance and promote and propagate our cultural heritage through the use of technology.
Johnson noted that LSCAC is working towards achieving its mandate of Promoting, Propagating and Preserving the indigenous Culture, thereby driving Tourism.
The LSCAC boss maintained that Lagos State has been at the forefront of promoting, propagating and preserving the State’s indigenous cultures as a way of implementing the 1971 Cultural Policy of Nigeria.
