Lagos nightlife has been ranked among the best in the world, placing second in Africa behind Cape Town, South Africa, according to Time Out Magazine.

The international publication noted that 79 percent of Lagos residents interviewed gave positive reviews of the city’s nightlife.

Lagos outperformed Cairo, Egypt, and Marrakech, Morocco, which ranked third and fourth respectively.

Time Out Magazine, a global media and entertainment platform that highlights the best experiences in cities around the world, stated that Lagos’ nightlife is evolving from exclusive lounges to more inclusive underground parties such as SweatItOutLagos and Our Group Therapy.

According to the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, this recognition reflects the level of safety and security of lives and property in Lagos State.

“It shows that the security architecture put in place by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is working. It speaks to the number of tourists who pour into Lagos daily and the success of the last detty December”

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration is making plans to create an official calendar for tourism activities, many of which take place in the final quarter of the year. This year, Lagos is set to make history as the first African city to host the EI (water race) Championship. Additionally, the African Union (AU) has selected Lagos to host the African Music Awards from November 25 to 30.

These end-of-year events, commonly referred to as “Detty December,” consistently have a significant positive impact on the state’s socio-economic landscape.

“Nightlife according to the magazine takes on lots of different forms, and cities all over the world have adapted to our changing habits when it comes to going out. So, to uncover which cities are the best of the best when it comes to going out after dark in 2025, we quizzed thousands of city-dwellers and consulted a panel of experts to curate a list of the planet’s best nightlife cities.”
