Lagos State Government has commenced the demolition of illegal structures and shanties around Jakande Estate and Maiyegun in the Lekki area and Three-metre Right of way in Apapa.

This was announced by Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources in the state, in a post on his official X handle.

The Commissioner shared a video clip from the site where structures are being pulled down.

He added the caption, “Lagos State Government this morning began the removal of all illegal structures and shanties built around Jakande Estate and Maiyegun, Lekki.

“This enforcement is geared towards reclaiming the coastal road alignment for the Lagos – Calabar Highway project of the Federal Government, and the urban regeneration of the area.”

“We want to check the state of collectors in Apapa to evacuate and treat the Collectors, the whole of the Collectors in this area are blocked and the right of way taken over by individuals who moved their fences to acquire extra land thereby denying us access to the drains,” Wahab said.

The Commissioner directed enforcement officers to ensure the removal of all properties violating the drainage right of way, adhering to the legal requirement of a three-meter clearance.

Wahab assured that the enforcement process would be impartial, with no properties being exempted.
