Lagos Court Set To Prosecute Emefiele On Monday

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has fixed a court proceeding against beleaguered former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele, billed for Monday April 8, 2024 at the Ikeja High Court, Lagos.

The Commision accused Emefiele of abuse of office over allocation of funds amounting to billions of United States dollars.

The accused alongside one Henry Omole, will be arraigned on 26-count before Justice Rahman Oshodi in a charge marked ID/23787c/2024 filed by Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN).

EFCC alleged that Emefiele, in the year 2022 and 2023 in an arbitrary act, to wit: allocated foreign exchange in the aggregate sum of $2,136,391,737.33 without bids, which is prejudicial to the rights of Nigerians.

Emefiele was also alleged to have allocated foreign exchange in the aggregate sum of $291,945,785.59, without bids between year 2020 and 2021.

In addition, the EFCC accused Emefiele to have sometime in 2021 allocated a foreign exchange in the aggregate sum of $1,769,254,793.16, also a trample on the rights of Nigerians.

The EFCC also in count four accused Emefiele of money laundering in the sum of $370,872,893.01.

Emefiele’s co-defendant, Omole, was alleged to have accepted a total sum of $110,000 from one Raja Punjab through a man identified as Monday Osazuwa on November 17, 2020 while being an agent of the former Central Bank Governor.

All alleged Offences contravened Section 73 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
