Lagos Assures Prompt Payment Of Retirement Benefits, Proper Welfare Of Retirees

The Lagos State Government has reassured retirees in the state that retirement benefits will be paid promptly.

This was made known by the state’s Head of Service, Bode Agoro, at the First and Second Quarters of Year 2024 send-forth ceremony for retirees in Lagos.

During the event, none fewer than 115 of them were on send-off from Civil Service engagements.

Agoro hinted that the Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration has fashion out initiatives to ensure that the retirees remain connected to the plans of the state government.

He said that the initiatives cut across bi-monthly webinar, quarterly training and sensitization, skills acquisition, vocational training as well as the mentoring scheme to mention few.

The Head of Service also reminisced the provision of the state government on Post-Service Department in the Office of the Head of Service. According to him, the measure will bring forth continuos attention to all issues relating to welfare packages for the retirees and improvement in their lifestyle after retirement.

Agoro began his address by commending the Governor. He said, “I express heartfelt gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his steadfast support and visionary leadership. His commitment to welfare of the public servants, most especially the retirees, has been exemplary and needs deep appreciation.

“Distinguished Retirees, saying you have left incredible legacies behind for us to follow is not an overstatement. Over the years, you have upheld the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and service excellence.

“You have also mentored younger colleagues, fostered collaboration, and consistently worked towards the betterment of our State. Your contributions have not only shaped the policies and programmes that have benefited countless citizens but have also set a shining example for future generations of Public Servants. Without flattery, let me state that your professionalism and dedication have ensured the smooth turning of the wheels of governance even in the face of challenges.

“Through your efforts, numerous projects have been completed, and essential services have been delivered efficiently to the good people of Lagos State. With these, I believe you should be very proud of yourselves for leaving the Service on a high note”, Agoro said.

Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, Sunkanmi Oyegbola, lauded the significant contributions made by the retirees which has, according to her, led to further developments in the state.

Oyebola disclosed that they conducted themselves in an emulating manner while in service an act which others can learn from.

The Permanent Secretary said, “Retirement is not an end to life but the beginning of a new chapter filled with opportunities for rest, reflection and new adventures.

“Our retirees have served with distinction, facing challenges head-on, achieving your goals and contributing immensely to the progress of our state. We salute your courage and celebrate your unblemished record as you step into a well-deserved retirement”, Oyegbola said.

The retirees were urged to leverage on the empowerment provisions rendered to them.

They were also admonished to make good use of the initiative so as to be employers of labour and also provide an alternative source of extra income from a business venture to keep them engaged.
