The Lagos State House of Assembly has pledged to collaborate with the Nigerian Army to sustain peace and tranquility in the state.

The legislative arm gave the assurance while hosting Brigadier Olawale Oyekola in a plenary on Thursday.

Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, said that the Assembly is committed in ensuring serenity in the state communities where 40 of it’s members are representing.

He said: “I want to assure you of our total support. Our arms are wide open. When you need us, all you have to do is just call on us. We are at the House of Assembly to protect the people’s interests, and their rights and ensure they do what they are supposed to do.

“We love peace in Lagos, which you can call a mini-Nigeria. And with your coming, we hope to sustain the peace we have in the State.

“Our interest is to prosper Lagos economically, socio-politically and in infrastructure.”

Brigadier Oyekola, the 48th Commander of the 9 Brigade in the Nigerian Army, said that the motive behind his visit was to meet with the representatives of the people of Lagos for dialogue on way to sustain peace in the state.

While ensuring that the military is keen on protecting the lives and properties of the populace as mandated, he called for support of the residents in realizing a more conducive habitat for all and sundry.

The General resumed at the Brigade’s Headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos on August 21, 2024, after previously serving as Chief of Staff at the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI.
