There were strong indications that Lagos State’s ruling All Progressives Congress most powerful caucus, the Governor’s Advisory Council plans to meet today to discuss the forthcoming elections into the local governments and local council development areas.
Echonews gathered that a notice of meeting issued by Chief Mutiu Are, the GAC secretary scheduled the meeting for the residence of the governor at Marina, on Lagos Island.
The meeting will douse the tension among politicians hoping to run for various offices in the local government polls.
The tension rose due to lack of information on the exact date of the polls as the four year tenure of the present elected officials ends on July 25, this year.
Despite assurances by the State’s election body, the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC that arrangements were being put in place for the exercise, politicians across all the parties demanded for a time-table.
As evidence of preparations, LASIEC had dispatched non-sensitive election materials to local councils and inspected the offices for smooth operations.
It also organised training for the officers to address challenges that may occur during the polls.
Today’s meeting is expected to set the tone for the primaries in the ruling party which controls the governorship, the state and local government legislature and chairmanship positions at the council level.
