The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised former presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, over his comments on the Senate’s position on electronic transmission of election results, describing his claims as misleading and inaccurate.

In a statement issued on February 7, 2026, and signed by its spokesperson, Mogaji (Hon) Seye Oladejo, the party said recent clarifications by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe had once again confirmed that the Senate supports the use of technology, including electronic transmission of results, in line with the Electoral Act and subject to the operational capacity of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to the APC, these clarifications debunk claims, earlier amplified by Obi, that the Senate rejected electronic transmission of results. The party accused the former Anambra State governor of rushing to public commentary without properly verifying facts.

The Lagos APC said the Senate never opposed electronic transmission but instead worked to strengthen the legal framework to ensure that the use of technology in elections is credible, secure and aligned with INEC’s technical readiness. It described attempts to label this position as a “rejection” as either a misunderstanding of legislative procedure or a deliberate distortion for political gain.

The party further accused Obi of repeatedly portraying Nigeria in a negative light, especially on international platforms, warning that such narratives could undermine investor confidence and national morale. While acknowledging the importance of constructive criticism, the APC argued that opposition figures must balance criticism with responsibility and national interest.

Oladejo also claimed that Obi’s frequent reliance on social media commentary had led to premature statements and public reversals, raising questions about his leadership temperament and ability to promote national unity.

The Lagos APC stressed that democracy thrives on accuracy, restraint and truth, adding that Nigeria deserves leadership anchored on diligence, emotional intelligence and patriotism, rather than what it described as sensational commentary and misrepresentation of facts.
