The Lagos State Taskforce has apprehended 32 suspected hoodlums over alleged offences of use and sale of illicit drugs.

The Taskforce agency, while enforcing the state’s environmental laws in Ikeja, arrested the suspects on notorious black spots following an intelligence received by commuters who complained about several vices commited in the area.

The suspects consisting of 25 males and 7 females were caught in possession of various illegal substances such as Indian hemp, codeine and over narcotic substances, during raids at Alausa CBD, NERDC Road, Alhaja Ashabi Cole Street, the frontage of the African Shrine in Agidingbi, Adekunle Fajuyi Way, Shobo Arobiodu, Isaac John Street, Oba Akinjobi Road in GRA Ikeja, and other adjoining streets where the presence of criminal elements were reported.

Sequel to their arrests, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, stated on Wednesday that the operation was part of the agency’s ongoing enforcement and clean-up campaign to rid the state of criminal elements.

Wahab emphasized that the operation is a crucial step toward providing relief for residents who have long been affected by illicit activities in these areas.

The Commissioner also noted that the arrestees will be charged to court for prosecution.
