There has been low demand for Kerosene as more people now embrace gas for domestic cooking.

A survey across filling stations across Oshodi, Isolo and Ejigbo by ECHONEWS has revealed that many people no longer use kerosene probably due to the reduction in the price of gas and the effectiveness of using the product.

Lately, gas is at a competitive price with Kerosene as 3kg of gas is sold at about N230 in filling station while a litre of kerosene is sold at N250 in filling station and N270 in other outlets.

It was noticed that many filling stations have also stopped selling kerosene and instead deal in gas.

Speaking with ECHONEWS, Mr. Bankole Adekola, an attendant at Forte Oil Petroleum Station in Oshodi said many people now prefer gas because of it durability and price compared to kerosene.

He noted that kerosene is now being used by the customers who cannot afford gas and who see gas as a very risky and hazardous substance.

A senior pump attendant at Total Petrol Station in Isolo said though people in Isolo community still patronise the kerosene section of the organisation, the use has drastically reduced in the community.

Iya Sunday, a black market trader around Daleko, Ejigbo also noted that the advent and widespread use of rechargeable lamps, solar energy, etc has reduced the number of homes patronising kerosene sellers.
