JUST IN: Fire Razes Seven-Storey Building In Lagos Island
Early Friday morning, residents of the Lagos Island Local Government Area woke up to a devastating fire incident at a seven-storey building on Sanni Adewale Street.
According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service Director, Margaret Adeseye, the fire was caused by an electrical surge.
In a statement made via her social media handle, Adeseye confirmed that the Lagos Fire and Rescue Service received a distress call at 05:17 hours and promptly mobilized firefighters from Ebute Elefun, Sari, and Lekki 1 stations to the scene by 05:33 hours
Adeseye reassured the public that the situation had been contained, adding that there were no reported casualties.
The official statement from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service noted that on 16th August 2024, at 05:17 hours, they received an emergency call about a fire outbreak at Sanni Adewale Street, located in the Lagos Island Local Government Area. The incident impacted numerous shops within a 7-storey building.
“Firefighters from the Ebute Elefun, Sari, and Lekki 1 stations promptly responded, arriving at the scene by 05:33 hours.
“Thanks to the swift actions of the Lagos State Firefighters, the situation is now under control. Ventilation efforts are currently ongoing in ensuring the safety of all in the area. Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was triggered by an electrical surge. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.”
