The  Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Mr. Jelili Sulaimon launched a youth empowerment initiative targeting 500 young people during the Alimosho Youth Stakeholders meeting on Thursday, 16th October 2024, at the Local Government Secretariat, Akowonjo.

The meeting, now a regular platform for engaging with the youth of Alimosho, attracted participants from various backgrounds, including different political affiliations, professions, and educational levels. Its objective is to unify the youth and address their shared needs.

In his remarks, Comrade Samuel Oloruntola, Chairman of the Committee, highlighted that the group had resolved to recommend two key areas for youth empowerment to the local government. These include providing tools and support for youth who are already skilled and engaged in vocational activities, as well as training and empowering others in essential skills, particularly in information technology and vocational trades.

Supporting this, Comrade Jibola, Vice Chairman of the Committee, advocated for leveraging national programs such as 3MTT and SMEDAN, which align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of keeping youth engaged in productive activities.

Addressing the attendees, the Secretary to the Local Government, Mr. Dare Ogunkoya encouraged the youth to embrace the forthcoming opportunities. He praised Hon. Jelili Sulaimon for his track record of delivering on promises.

“Our Chairman doesn’t make empty promises. If he says something will happen, rest assured it will be done. His achievements speak for themselves, from the completion of the Bola Tinubu Health Centre, Olorungbebe Health Centre, and Ipile-Rere Health Centre, to the construction of the Local Government Administrative Building and the successful completion of 15 roads, with 5 more under construction,” Ogunkoya highlighted.

Other notable accomplishments of the administration include significant investments in education, such as the construction of the ultra-modern Aregbesola Primary School.

Following the recommendations of the Youth Stakeholders Committee, Mr. Jelili Sulaimon identified two core areas of focus: empowerment and employment. Youth in attendance were grouped based on their areas of interest, including programming, graphic design, vocational training, and recruitment into the military.

The progress of these empowerment initiatives will be evaluated at the next meeting, ensuring continued momentum toward realizing the objectives.

In a statement by Babatunde Opeyemi Yusuf, Special Assistant on Media to the  Chairman, the administration reaffirmed its dedication to youth development, stating, “This government remains committed to equipping Alimosho’s youth with the tools and skills necessary for a brighter future.”
