Jamb Forms: Students Commends Council Boss
By Saheed Afolabi
Badagry students have commended council chairman, Babatunde Hunpe for the distribution of free Jamb forms to aid their educational pursuit.
In a renewed push to strengthen education and youth empowerment, the Badagry Local Government has distributed 400 free General Certificate of Education (GCE) forms to indigent students across the council.
The initiative, championed by the Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Mr Babatunde Hunpe, aims to cushion the financial burden on parents while promoting access to quality education for all.
Speaking during the official presentation ceremony held at the council secretariat, the chairman, represented by the Vice Chairman, Mr Hakeem Adeyemi, said the gesture was a deliberate effort to encourage academic excellence.
“We have resolved not just to provide educational support and incentives, but to be deliberate and strategic about how we do it, so that the purpose will be accomplished and the results will be visible for all to see,” Adeyemi said.
He urged the beneficiaries to justify the council’s investment by studying hard and excelling in their examinations, adding that the administration had also provided free tutorial classes and would award free JAMB forms to outstanding performers.
The chairman further commended Mr. Samuel Mawuyon Ajose, founder of the SMA Foundation, for his philanthropic gesture in donating an additional 200 GCE forms to complement the council’s 200, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 400.
The Head of Education and Library Services, Mr. Coker Adewale, described the initiative as a product of the chairman’s passion for education and youth development.
“From inception to execution, the chairman has been fully supportive. His vision is to empower our youths academically and protect them from negative influences through education,” Coker said.
Council Treasurer, Mr. Hunponu Olusegun, commended the chairman for his consistent investment in human capital development, noting that education remained a lasting legacy that could transform generations.
“This administration has shown that education is not just a priority but a mission. What we are witnessing today is an investment that will yield returns for families and the entire Badagry community,” he said.
Some beneficiaries who spoke with journalists expressed gratitude for the opportunity, describing the gesture as timely and life-changing.
Busari Omobolaji, one of the recipients, said he felt excited but emotional noting that many of his peers could not afford such opportunities.
Another beneficiary, Odiom Peace Adeomi, said the distribution came at a critical moment when she had almost lost hope adding that she was determined to make the council proud through academic excellence.
“My advice to other beneficiaries is to take full advantage of this generosity and study hard.
“The chairman also promised that anyone who performs excellently will get a free JAMB form and may even be sponsored through tertiary education.”
The event also featured cash awards of ₦45,000 each to six winners of the Badagry Local Government Spelling Bee Competition, held earlier in September, as part of the council’s wider efforts to promote literacy and intellectual engagement among young people.
Badagey Council Manager, Mrs. Mary Olusanya, urged the students to be diligent and make the council’s investment worthwhile.
“Education remains our most powerful tool for community transformation,” Olusanya said.
“We expect the beneficiaries to burn the midnight candle and make Badagry proud.”
