IWD 2026: Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA Rallies for Stronger Women Inclusion
The Ikosi-Ejinrin Local Council Development Area stepped into the spotlight for International Women’s Day 2026 with a bold message: women’s empowerment must move from policy talk to real, measurable impact at the grassroots.
Joining the wider celebrations across Lagos, the council leveraged this year’s theme, “Rights, Justice, Action for All Women and Girls,” as a rallying call for deeper inclusion and accelerated progress. The event underscored a growing shift among local governments to translate global conversations into tangible change within communities.
Chairman Wale Raji Anomo emphasised that women remain central to sustainable development, describing their empowerment as both a moral imperative and an economic strategy. According to him, strengthening women’s access to education, financial resources, and social opportunities is key to building resilient communities.
The celebration doubled as a showcase of resilience and achievement, spotlighting women who are making strides across entrepreneurship, leadership, and vocational sectors. It also served as a platform to push for greater female representation in governance and expanded access to skill acquisition programmes.
Beyond the local stage, the initiative aligns with broader efforts by the Lagos State Government to scale up investments in women-focused policies. From education to economic empowerment and social protection, authorities say the goal is to fully integrate women into the state’s growth story.
However, stakeholders noted that challenges persist. Limited access to finance, employment gaps, and gender-based vulnerabilities continue to hinder progress, prompting calls for more targeted interventions and sustained commitment.
For Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA, the 2026 commemoration was more than symbolic—it was a renewed declaration of intent. The council reaffirmed its drive to build an inclusive future where women are not just participants, but powerful drivers of development at every level.
