Imota LCDA Flags Off Renovation of Oriokuta Primary Healthcare Centre
The Imota Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has commenced the renovation of the Oriokuta Primary Healthcare Centre as part of efforts to improve access to quality healthcare services for residents.
Echonews reports that the project is being executed under the leadership of the Chairman, Benson Sunday Ayodele, who said the initiative aligns with his administration’s commitment to strengthening primary healthcare delivery.
Speaking on the development, Ayodele described healthcare as a critical pillar of his administration’s “Hi-SEE” transformation agenda, noting that the renovation would significantly enhance service delivery and create a more conducive environment for patients and healthcare workers.
He explained that the Oriokuta Primary Healthcare Centre, which has served the community for many years, had deteriorated over time and required urgent intervention.
According to the chairman, the scope of the project includes structural upgrades, installation of alternative power systems to ensure round-the-clock operations, improved water supply, enhanced sanitation facilities, and the provision of patient-friendly infrastructure.
He added that measures are also being put in place to ensure proper maintenance of the facility upon completion.
Ayodele further stated that the upgraded centre would reduce the need for residents to travel long distances to access medical care, while also strengthening preventive healthcare, maternal services, and emergency response within the community.
Also speaking, the Supervisor for Works, Infrastructure and Housing, Sanni Muftaudeen Adetoro, commended the council chairman for his proactive leadership, noting that the project reflects the administration’s commitment to improving the standard of living for residents.
He added that the pace and quality of work observed so far indicate a strong determination to complete the project within schedule.
Residents of Oriokuta and neighbouring communities have welcomed the development, describing it as timely and impactful. Many expressed optimism that the renovation would ease access to basic healthcare services, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women, and the elderly.
Healthcare workers at the facility also expressed confidence that the upgraded centre would enhance their capacity to deliver efficient and quality medical services.
The council noted that the project fulfils a key promise made during a community needs assessment conducted in August 2025, reaffirming its commitment to addressing critical gaps in the health sector and promoting community wellbeing.
