Imota LCDA Chairman Launches Major Drive to Clear Dumping Sites, Plans Green Transformation of Roundabout

In a bold move to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for residents, the Chairman of Imota Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Benson Sunday Ayodele, has initiated the clearing of major refuse dumping sites across the council area.
The exercise, which commenced on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, targeted the long-standing dumping site at Oriokuta Community and unauthorised waste disposal areas around Imota Roundabout. The initiative reflects the administration’s determination to tackle environmental hazards, reduce waste accumulation, and safeguard public health.
Benson explained that the operation followed his directive to the Environmental Health Services Department to begin immediate clearing and continuous monitoring of illegal dumping points throughout the LCDA.
“We are clearing all accumulated waste and will deploy surveillance measures to prevent recurrence. Residents are reminded that illegal dumping violates Lagos State environmental laws and poses a serious threat to public health,” he said.
Highlighting the administration’s broader environmental reform agenda, the Council Chairman revealed plans to transform the Imota Roundabout dumpsite into a recreational garden for community use, turning a longstanding eyesore into a green and beautified space.
He urged residents to support the initiative by reporting illegal dumping to the Environmental Health Services Department, relevant law enforcement agencies, or LAWMA enforcement teams for prompt intervention.
The cleanup addresses a critical concern identified during a community needs assessment tour at the start of the BSA-BOJ administration in August 2025, when the Oriokuta dumping site was highlighted as a source of flooding and unsanitary conditions affecting local residents.
With this intervention, the Imota LCDA administration underscores its commitment to environmental sustainability, public health, and the creation of safe, clean, and green community spaces.
