The Chairman of Agbado/Oke-Odo LCDA, David Famuyiwa, yesterday counselled market leaders, commercial drivers in the early hours of sanitation exercise.
The market was defiled by the unsanitary activities of vendors who routinely break environmental rules.
He urged people to maintain a clean environment and reaffirmed that anyone found breaking environmental laws would be subject to legal repercussions. He also pleaded with drivers to strictly follow the rules for parking their cars in order to reduce unnecessary traffic in the market area.
Regarding the Oke-Odo Market’s closure and reopening by the Lagos State Ministry of Environment, which was caused by traders’ indiscriminate trash dumping and poor hygiene procedures, this visit was crucial.
The Council Chairman addressed the market leaders and expressed satisfaction with the current cleaning effort being shown in the market today. He urged them to keep up the pace of cleanliness.

Famuyiwa stated that his administration would keep reviewing the process to rectify any problems, particularly with the market roads and drainage systems.
He added that the Sanitation Officers of the Council would keep track of everything and make sure that all efforts to keep the market clean and hygienic were being made in their daily operations.
The Chairman also underlined the necessity for waste bins to be installed by the industry leaders and demanded that everyone adopt the culture of correct garbage disposal for collection by waste managers since it will no longer be tolerated.
Some of the traders who took part in the exercise praised the Chairman and his entourage’s efforts and showed excitement to participate in ensuring a cleaner Oke-Odo Market.
