Ikorodu North LCDA clinches Green Local Government award for environmental excellence

Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has been honoured with the Green Local Government Award, in recognition of its sustained commitment to environmental sanitation, safety and sustainable development under the leadership of Mayor Ameen Olawale Ibrahim Apanisile.
The prestigious award was conferred by the Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria (EHOAN), Lagos Chapter, which represents environmental health professionals across all 57 local governments and local council development areas in the state.
The recognition highlights Ikorodu North LCDA’s innovative contributions to environmental management, its consistent sanitation initiatives and its drive toward building a healthier and more sustainable community.
The award was formally presented to the Chairman by the Head of Environment, Mr. Amothon Jameson Thons, alongside members of the environmental department, who commended the council for setting a standard worthy of emulation among local governments in Lagos State.
According to EHOAN, the Green Local Government Award is reserved for councils that demonstrate practical commitment to environmental protection, public health, cleanliness and sustainable practices at the grassroots level.
Receiving the honour, the Ikorodu North LCDA leadership described the award as a reflection of collective effort, noting that environmental sustainability remains a core pillar of the council’s development agenda.
The recognition marks another milestone in the administration’s pursuit of people-centred governance and reinforces its resolve to continue investing in initiatives that improve the quality of life of residents.
Community stakeholders have also applauded the achievement, describing it as a clear indication that consistent environmental policies, when backed by strong leadership, can yield measurable and impactful results at the local level.
