Ikorodu Division Endorses Tinubu for 2027 at Unity Rally
By Emmanuel Daniji
Political leaders, traditional rulers, youths, students, and community stakeholders across Ikorodu Division of Lagos State have declared their support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was formally announced at the Ikorodu Division Unites for 2027 Rally, held on Monday, February 9, 2026, at the Ikorodu Town Hall. Speakers at the event cited what they described as landmark achievements of the Tinubu administration, including economic reforms, infrastructure expansion, social intervention programmes, and efforts toward strengthening national stability.
The rally drew participants from the six local government and local council development areas that make up Ikorodu Division — Ikorodu Central, Ikorodu North, Ikorodu West, Igbogbo-Baiyeku, Ijede, and Imota — reflecting what party leaders described as a united progressive front.
Beyond the rally, royal fathers across the division also publicly expressed their support. Speaking to journalists at the palace of the Ayangburen of Ikorodu and Paramount Ruler of Ikorodu Division, Oba (Engr.) Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, traditional rulers described President Tinubu’s leadership as critical to Nigeria’s continued stability and development.
The Lagos State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, who witnessed the rally, commended the people of Ikorodu Division for what he termed unwavering loyalty to the party and early mobilisation ahead of the 2027 polls. He noted that Ikorodu has historically remained at the forefront of progressive politics in Lagos State.
Chairing the occasion, Col. Onafowokan Bolaji Titilola, PhD (Lt. Col. rtd), said the gathering was driven by conviction rather than mere party allegiance.
“Today, we gather not merely out of party loyalty, but out of conviction in a leader whose vision, courage, and capacity have been tested over decades and proven beyond doubt,” he stated, describing President Tinubu as a strategic thinker and statesman with visible developmental footprints from Lagos to Abuja.
The Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Adedayo Abayomi Abdul-Lateef Ladega, said federal government policies under the current administration have begun to yield results at the grassroots level. He urged residents to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and actively participate in the 2027 elections.
Representing Ikorodu Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Ogunleye Gbolahan Adetokunbo, acknowledged that President Tinubu assumed office during a challenging economic period. While noting that reforms often come with initial difficulties, he expressed optimism that fiscal adjustments and foreign exchange stability indicate gradual recovery. He added that the administration is also addressing security concerns with renewed focus.
Similarly, Hon. Aro Moshood Abiodun (AMA), representing Ikorodu Constituency II, described the division as united in purpose and determined to play a decisive role in securing victory for the APC in 2027.
Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects, economic restructuring efforts, and inclusive governance initiatives. She also pointed to gender-sensitive appointments and projected economic growth indicators as signs of progress.
The member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Babajimi Benson, introduced what he termed President Tinubu’s “mental magnitude,” describing it as the ability to make bold decisions with long-term national impact. He cited initiatives such as the student loan scheme (NELFUND), the creation of Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos, and the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway project as examples of forward-looking leadership.
Benson noted that the establishment of LCDAs has strengthened grassroots governance, improved security coordination, and accelerated development in Lagos State.
Also speaking, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, reaffirmed Ikorodu Division’s support for President Tinubu, describing the rally as a clear demonstration of unity and readiness. He emphasized the need for sustained collaboration between the executive and legislative arms of government to maintain reform momentum.
Members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) from Ikorodu Division, alongside APC leaders under the leadership of Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, reiterated the division’s longstanding alignment with progressive politics since 1999. They stressed that Ikorodu’s political engagement extends beyond elections to grassroots mobilisation, policy advocacy, and community development.
Other dignitaries present included the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje; the Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Abisola Olusanya; council chairmen; members of the Lagos State House of Assembly; members of the State Executive Council from the division; as well as community, youth, and religious leaders.
Prominent traditional and political figures such as Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, Aarebirin Hon. Dr. Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba, and Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, alongside other traditional leaders across the division, were also in attendance, lending further weight to the endorsement.
The rally concluded with a collective pledge by stakeholders to intensify grassroots mobilisation efforts ahead of 2027, describing Ikorodu Division as united and prepared for the next electoral cycle.
