Despite the residents’ rejection of e-billing system, Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) has announced that electronic billing would take effect as from next month across Isolo LCDA.

The Manager, Isolo Undertaking Office, Engr. Eric Okoro, disclosed this to ECHONEWS in a chat with our correspondent.

ECHONEWS reported two weeks ago that there was a faceoff between the company and the residents of Ago-Okota over the e-billing system as the residents said they were not contented with the new billing system.

Okoro established that beginning from September, 2019, house-to-house distribution of electricity bills would be ended as customers would now receive their bills through electronic means on their e-mail and SMS.

According to him, “We’re now in a world where ICT has taken over the system and we have to go in line with technology by replacing our analogical way of billing to digital since the world is digital. We need to embrace it and the earlier the better.”

Speaking about consumers’ awareness about the soon-to-be-effective development, Okoro made it known that prior to now, customers’ sensitisation has begun to comprehensively inform them about the development.

“Prior to this period, the sensitisation had begun, whenever our marketers go out to customers’ houses to read their meter, they request for their phone numbers and e-mail addresses and explain the reason to them. E-billing will effectively take over our custom house-to-house bill distribution. It will complement the operations of the distribution company pending the time everyone gets the prepaid meter device,” he said.
