Ikeja Distribution Company (IKEDC) has appealed to the residents of Apena Ward of Isolo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) over sudden drop in the power supply to the community, saying it was due to limitation in power generation from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The residents have complained over the short-time epileptic power supply experienced in the community, urging IKEDC to increase the supply.

They complained that they hardly have 4-hours power supply on daily basis, which is out of tune with the high bills given to them, claiming that the situation has been affecting their living and businesses.

While speaking to ECHONEWS, the General Secretary of Canal Estate, Akpan Kingsley, appealed to Ikeja Electric to put proper equipment in place to sustain power supply.

“Power generation is fair enough for residents to enjoy at least 23 hours steady power supply daily. Are you still waiting for the rains? Our problem is still the same, it only changed name from PHCN to IKEDC.

“We are not finding it funny in Canal Estate to be experiencing less than four hours of unsteady power supply daily. You want us to become deafened with generator noise before the needful is done? We have a very terrible situation in this nation now, don’t worsen it with epileptic power supply.”

Another resident, Mrs. Brigid Anijeke said: “This epileptic power supply is becoming a plague to all of us at Mukandasi to Century. The 10 minutes power supply is uncalled for. It is better you keep the light let’s stick to our generators instead of switching it off and on like a toy frustrating people here and there. It’s either you give available power or you hold onto to it.

“We have less than 4 hours supply in 24 hours. We don’t know if the Leaders should be blamed for this or the custodians within the district. Please stop tormenting us as we are already frustrated with this power issue.”

“The most annoying aspect is the ‘cut throat’ bill for those who don’t have prepaid meters yet. Why should customers be paying for darkness?” said Udom Stephen, another concerned resident.

Meanwhile, the Manager, IKEDC Okota Undertaking Office, Engr. Babatunde Apanisile, who spoke to ECHONEWS, appealed to residents, saying the unusual experience was as a result of poor power generation as he promised that solution would be proffered soonest.

“The problem at hand is beyond our control, I have been to TCN to find out what could have been responsible for this sudden drop of supply to Ago environs, the TCN operator made me understand that it is limitation from generation (load restriction). Supply will be restored to all communities as soon as power generation improved. We are sorry for the inconvenience.”
