The air in Igbogbo was charged with excitement on Monday as the Igbogbo Students’ Union (ISU) began its 70th anniversary celebration with a spirited community event — the “Pa Olatunji Odusanya Walk for Fitness and Awareness.”
The walk, which kicked off at the historic Adeboruwa Palace, drew a vibrant mix of students, youth leaders, and community members, transforming the usually calm Monday morning into a colorful display of unity and purpose. Participants marched through major streets in Igbogbo, spreading messages of wellness, discipline, and civic engagement.
It was a heartwarming spectacle, with secondary school students turning out in large numbers — their bright uniforms and chants bringing an infectious energy to the streets. The walk served as a symbolic reminder of ISU’s longstanding tradition of blending education, activism, and community spirit.
The event marked the official start of a week-long celebration themed “The Enduring Legacy: 70 Years of Impactful Community Unionism.” It reflected the union’s continued relevance and resilience since its founding in 1955 — a period that has seen it evolve into one of the most respected student bodies in Ikorodu Division.
Speaking after the walk, ISU President Comrade Abdulsalam Tijani expressed gratitude for the overwhelming turnout and reaffirmed his administration’s vision — “The Rebirth Agenda: Our New Hope.”
“The Igbogbo Students’ Union has always been a driving force for youth development and social impact in our community,” Tijani said. “This walk symbolizes not just physical wellness, but our renewed commitment to unity, service, and progress — values that have defined this union for seven decades.”
He described the walk as both a celebration of history and a call to action for the next generation to take responsibility for shaping Igbogbo’s future through education and civic participation.
The anniversary activities will continue throughout the week with a rich lineup that includes public lectures, cultural showcases, and recognition awards for distinguished members and partners who have contributed to the union’s legacy.
From its humble beginnings in 1955 to becoming a recognized voice for student advocacy, ISU’s 70-year journey stands as a testament to the power of youth-driven leadership and community partnership.
As the fitness walk came to a close, one thing was clear — the Igbogbo Students’ Union is not just celebrating its past; it is marching confidently into the future.
