Residents of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, many of whom have been relying on candlelight, battery lamps, and intermittent grid supply, have not suffered in silence—and their concerns have not gone unnoticed. The prolonged power outage affecting the LCDA has disrupted households, strained businesses, and heightened anxiety across the communities.

In response, the council has assured residents that decisive steps are already underway to resolve the situation.

According to information obtained from Ikeja Electric (IE), the power cuts are linked to national grid limitations resulting in reduced allocation to several parts of Lagos. Unfortunately, Igbogbo/Baiyeku falls within one of the most affected corridors.

But while the technical explanations offer context, the LCDA leadership insists that the people deserve more than excuses—they deserve action.

To that end, the Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Omoba Hammed Aroyewun, recently took the concerns of the community directly to the top management of Ikeja Electric. In a strategic engagement at the company’s headquarters, the chairman held an extensive meeting with the Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Folake Soetan, pressing for urgent intervention and a clearer timeline for restoration.

Sources at the meeting disclosed that Mrs. Soetan assured the chairman that technical teams have been deployed and residents should expect visible improvements soon.

This latest intervention follows the peaceful protest led by the LCDA’s Community Development Committee (CDC) on November 11, 2025, during which residents demanded transparency about the persistent outage. It was during that engagement that Ikeja Electric revealed a critical detail:

A major fault had occurred on the 150 MVA power transformer at the Egbin transmission end—an installation that supplies power to multiple communities including Igbogbo/Baiyeku.

In a significant development, IE confirmed that a new 300 MVA transformer has already been ordered from Germany as a replacement. Once installed, it is expected to bring long-term stability and a substantial improvement to power supply across the LCDA and adjoining communities.

Meanwhile, the council has dismissed claims circulating on social media suggesting that the chairman or the CDC has been inactive. The administration described such insinuations as “false, misleading, and unfair to the reality of ongoing engagements.”

According to the LCDA, the HOA-led administration has been in continuous communication with Ikeja Electric, monitoring progress and pushing for accelerated action.

The Chairman, Omoba Hammed Aroyewun, expressed deep appreciation to residents for their patience, urging them to remain calm and continue sharing verified information through official channels.

Residents are encouraged to direct concerns to:
Official Hotline: 09156491725
Official Social Media Handles: (as designated by the LCDA)

The chairman reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the welfare of Igbogbo/Baiyeku residents, noting that the ordeal has only strengthened the administration’s resolve to advocate for dependable public services.

“As we work to restore stable power, we remain united,” the statement reads. “This administration will continue to serve with diligence, transparency, and an unbroken commitment to our community.”
