The leadership of Igbo speaking community in Lagos led by its President General, Chief Sunday Udeh, has honoured the immediate past Lagos State Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Henry Ajomale, the Osolo of Isolo, His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabiru Kolawole Agbabiaka and other community leaders in Isolo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) for being receptive towards the Igbos in the community and for giving the Igbos opportunity to participate in politics and occupy political offices.
Chief Ajomale was honoured with the Pan-Nigerian Personality award while the Osolo was conferred with the Champion of Peace award at his residence in Okota.
Udeh said the awards were to further appreciate the community leaders for their magnanimity towards the Igbos in the community.
He particularly appreciated the two councillorship positions and other political positions accorded his tribesmen in the council area.
In his words: “We are here to say a big thank you for giving us two councillorship posts in the present administration of the local council. We have Hon. Kanayo Osondu representing Okota Ward and Hon. Magnus Chidiebere Iheasirim representing Ajao Estate Ward. In the executive arm, we have Hon. Franca Ene Udogwu as the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Ethnic Affairs and others. Also in the party, you gave us the Assistant General Secretary in the person of Prince Sylvester Obi, Paulicap Kpatuma, Mr Sunday Damian and other Igbos are also occupying various positions in the wards executive of the party. We are happy that Isolo is leading other Local Governments in building the ethnic bridge of peace and harmony. We are proud and we hold you in high esteem.”
Urging the former party chairman to facilitate more positions for Igbo in politics, Chief Udeh said the community was satisfied with the performance of the two councillors.
Appreciating the recognition and award, Ajomale remarked that the Igbos who represent 45 per cent of the total population of the community have contributed enough to the development of Isolo council area hence, the need for creation of conducive environment for peaceful coexistence.
He, however, maintained that the fall out with the Igbos in Okota Area of the council during the 2019 elections which reflected in their decision to vote for the opposition party has since been rectified, assuring them of more chances in the party in the forthcoming elections especially in the local council polls.
Other awardees include the LCDA party chairman, Barr. Gani Bello who bagged the Ethnic Bridge Builder Award, the immediate past Party Chairman, Alhaji Wahab Raji who received a similar award while the Chairman, Igbo Stakeholders Forum, Lagos, Prince Nixon Okwara, was conferred with the Igbo Personality Of Repute in Isolo.
Special Adviser to the state governor, Mr Babajide Sanwoolu on Drainage And Water Resources, Engr. Joe Igbokwe was among the personalities at the event.
