In a spiritually uplifting event, a high-level delegation from the Ifako-Ijaiye Muslim Community, led by President Alhaji Lateef Sunmonu, visited the family residence of the Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat.

The gathering, attended by clerics, scholars, and stakeholders from various central mosques across the local government, was held to offer special prayers for Hamzat, his family, and the entire local government.

Alhaji Sunmonu highlighted the dual purpose of the event: expressing gratitude and seeking divine favour ahead of the forthcoming local government elections.

“We are here to acknowledge and appreciate the immense support we have received from the Chairman throughout his tenure. Prince Usman fulfilled every promise he made to us. He ensured consistent monthly impress and stood firmly with the Muslim community. This prayer is our way of saying thank you and invoking Allah’s help for his re-election and the prosperity of Ifako-Ijaiye,” he stated.

Also speaking at the prayer event were the Grand Patron of the Muslim Community, Alhaji Yunusa Lasisi; the Chief Missioner, Sheikh Shuaib Muhammad Awwal Atata; and several other Islamic clerics. They offered heartfelt prayers for Prince Usman, lauding his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to development, unity, and religious harmony within the local government.

The gathering underscored the Islamic principle of du’a (prayer) as a powerful spiritual tool for seeking divine guidance, particularly for those entrusted with public office. Scholars present reaffirmed that praying for leaders is both a spiritual obligation and a communal responsibility in ensuring just and compassionate governance. Citizens were encouraged to make continuous prayers for their leaders, noting that good leadership is a mercy from Allah.

In his response, a visibly moved Prince Usman expressed deep appreciation for the outpouring of love and prayers from the Muslim community.

“I am sincerely honoured by this gathering and the prayers offered for me, my family, and the entire local government. I will never take your support for granted. By the grace of God, I will remain committed to the peace, unity, and progress of Ifako-Ijaiye,” he said.

Special prayers were also offered for the late patriarch of the Hamzat family, Oba Muftau Olatunji Hamzat, former Patron of the Muslim Community, as well as for the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and other members of the Hamzat family.

Additionally, all Councilorship candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ifako-Ijaiye were present at the event. They too received blessings and spiritual support for their respective political aspirations.

The atmosphere was charged with faith, unity, and optimism as the Muslim community reaffirmed its commitment to fostering good governance through both spiritual devotion and civic engagement.
