Tourism is emerging as a key frontier in the transformation of Ibeju-Lekki, as Local Government Chairman Abdullahi Sesan Olowa pushes for a bold shift toward harnessing the area’s rich coastal and cultural assets to drive economic prosperity.

At a recent forum, Olowa spotlighted the district’s vast but underutilised tourism potential, noting that its pristine beaches, vibrant heritage, and scenic landscapes could become powerful engines for job creation and revenue generation if strategically developed and promoted.

His vision comes at a time when Ibeju-Lekki is rapidly evolving into one of Lagos State’s most dynamic growth corridors, fuelled by large-scale infrastructure and industrial investments. Yet, the chairman insists that beyond factories and trade zones, tourism must take its place as a parallel force shaping the region’s future.

He pointed to a growing wave of recreational activities—from beachside festivals to grassroots cultural events—as early indicators of what could become a thriving tourism ecosystem capable of attracting both local and international visitors.

Olowa stressed that unlocking this potential will require a united effort, calling for stronger partnerships between government, private investors, and host communities to develop critical infrastructure, expand hospitality offerings, and safeguard the environment.

With its unique blend of coastline, culture, and connectivity to major economic projects, Ibeju-Lekki is increasingly being viewed as a new urban frontier. The chairman believes that with sustained focus and investment, the area can evolve into a premier destination where tourism, commerce, and modern living converge seamlessly
