Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has opened up about some of the difficult challenges she faced at the onset of her acting career.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, the movie star revealed that one of her earliest struggles was being handed extremely inappropriate and “outlandish” scripts.
She recounted being offered a role that required her to sleep with a dog, a script she immediately rejected. According to her, accepting such a role as a newcomer would have negatively shaped public perception of her from the very beginning.
“Despite being a newcomer, I was given a script to sleep with a dog. I rejected it because I can’t start off my career like that. Imagine my first ever movie, I am sleeping with a dog. It doesn’t make sense. Whatever you start with is what people will associate you with. I didn’t want to be known as someone who sleeps with dogs in movies,” she said.
Nkechi added that after discarding the script, she noticed several young actresses rushing to accept it, although, according to her, none of them went on to gain industry recognition.
Shortly after leaving the production venue, she crossed paths with veteran Nollywood filmmaker Emeka Duru, who expressed interest in working with her. He later connected her to an opportunity that became her official debut in ‘Through The Fire’, a film produced by Emem Isong.
