Hoodlums Attack Kai Officers During Lagos Wastewater Enforcement At Victoria Island

The Lagos State Government has condemned the violent attack on officers of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), also known as KAI, during a joint enforcement operation at the Yakoyo Abula Restaurants in Victoria Island.
According to the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the incident occurred on Wednesday during a follow-up operation carried out by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) and LAGESC to enforce regulations against the indiscriminate discharge of untreated wastewater, fats and oil into the environment.
Wahab said hoodlums linked to the restaurant, located at 134, Sinari Daranijo Street, Victoria Island, attacked the enforcement team, leaving four KAI officers injured. The restaurant had earlier been sealed for environmental violations.
He disclosed that not only did the operators break the government seal, they allegedly mobilised armed thugs to assault officials who were on lawful duty. “This crosses every line,” the commissioner said.
Wahab warned that the State Government will take decisive action against any individual or business that assaults, obstructs, or threatens government officers on duty. He reiterated that such premises would be immediately sealed and all offenders prosecuted.
“We will not allow lawlessness to take root in Lagos. No one is above the law, and any attempt to intimidate government officials will be met with firm and immediate consequences,” he said.
The supervisor of the restaurant has been arrested, while the facility remains sealed. Wahab added that investigations are ongoing and more arrests will be made to apprehend those involved in the attack.
The commissioner reaffirmed that the government’s enforcement drive will continue under the #ZeroToleranceLagos campaign to ensure environmental compliance across the state.
