LAGOS DSVA: COURT REMANDS SUSPECT FOR DEFILEMENT

A mother (names withheld) has told a magistrate court in Lagos how one Mr. Ife Adekoya lured her daughter to the bush and defiled her in Imota, Ikorodu.

She told Magistrate Amope Layinka that the suspect covered the mouth of the 12-year-old girl as he lured her into a nearby bush where she had carnal knowledge of her.

Reacting to the case, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), in collaboration with the Lagos State Police Command, has arraigned one Mr. Ife Adekoya for allegedly defiling a 12- his neighbour at Imota area of Ikorodu.

Speaking on the incident, the Executive Secretary of DSVA, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi said after receiving a report from the mother of the victim that her daughter was defiled by her neighbour on the 16th of June, 2023.

According to the mother, ” the alleged perpetrator lured her daughter to the bush and covered her mouth and proceeded to sexually assault her by penetration”.

Vivour-Adeniyi disclosed further that the case was immediately lodged at the Imota Family Support Unit Police Station for investigation and was subsequently transferred to the Gender Desk Department of the Lagos State Police Command.

“The matter was later charged to Court and the perpetrator was arraigned before Magistrate Amope Layinka on the 26th of July, 2023. He has since been remanded at Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison pending the Directorate of Public Prosecution’s legal advice while the matter was adjourned to September 19, 2023”, she added.

The Executive Secretary reiterated that all forms of abuse, neglect, domestic and sexual violence are crimes against the State and perpetrators would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
