GWR Chess Marathon: Lawmaker Applauds Onakoya

The Chairman House Committee on Local Government Administration, Chieftaincy Affairs & Rural Development in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Sanni Ganiyu Babatunde Okanlawon, has congratulated a renowned Nigerian chess player, Tunde Onakoya, as he completed his attempt at the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest chess marathon.

 

Tunde Onakoya broke the previous world record set by Norwegians in 2018, lasting for 56 hours, 9 minutes, and 37 seconds.

 

He achieved this on April 17, 2024, and opted to push further to 60 hours instead of stopping at the initially planned 58 hours.

Hon. Okanlawon, on Saturday, April 20, 2024, posted on his X handle,

“I congratulate Nigerian chess master, Mr. Tunde Onakoya, on setting a new Guinness World Record for the longest marathon chess in Times Square, New York.”

 

“This is a remarkable accomplishment that demonstrates the Nigerian’s resilience, skill, tenacity, and creative commitment.”

 

The Lagos lawmaker further expressed gratitude to Tunde Onakoya for making Lagos State, Nigeria, and Africa proud.
