Grassroots players should work hard and pray – Itisi
By Saheed Afolabi
A grassroots sport pillar, Mayowa Itisi, has advised the players at the grassroots to work harder and be prayerful to make it in their career.
Itisi, a major supporter of the players, said he has been sponsoring football talents in Oshodi-Isolo in scouting programmes and competitions to groom the youngsters to world class standard.
He told ECHONEWS that despite not playing football professionally, he loves football and believes in youngsters who are struggling to make it in the game.
“The number of talented footballers in the street is what is motivating me to sponsor these talents because most of their parents or guardians don’t have the means of sponsoring them for trials outside the country or even in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), which I normally do. At the same time, they also give back to the society when they make it.”
He has been sponsoring tournaments and players in the grassroots for over 5 years and it gives him joy seeing the talents discovered in the competition or trials and secure professional contract with a club.
He advised grassroots players to be disciplined, hard working and not relent in their pursuit of greener pastures in and outside the country, urging them to go extra mile and hustle their way in competitive environment.
