The coast towards second term ticket is getting clear for Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) chairman, Hon. Monsuru Bello Obe with his endorsement by the two members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) most powerful organ, the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC).
They are former Deputy Chairman of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), 84-year old Chief Imran Taiwo and the immediate past Chairman of the Lagos State APC, Chief Oladele Ajomale.
The journey to secure Chief Ajomale’s support began at 11am on Thursday when delegation of APC leaders in Ejigbo LCDA rode in a convoy of six vehicles to the Ayoola Street residence of Chief Ajomale.
Arriving there about 3pm, they were hosted to a warm reception by the man who chaired the ruling party for 16 years.
Former chairman of Ejigbo LCDA and the immediate past Commissioner for Information & Strategy, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan presented the case for the endorsement of Obe on the basis of the development of infrastructures, execution of welfare programmes and consolidation of the party.
Endorsing Obe for second term, Chief Ajomale marvelled at the wizardry of the chairman in transforming Ejigbo LCDA particularly the upgrade of the council secretariat, construction of the multi- purpose centre and the on-going construction of a new primary school.
“I don’t think there is any other chairman who can beat Obe in performance in Lagos State. His second term is assured.”
Recalling that Obe’s father, the late Alhaji Nurudeen Obe was one of the earliest supporters of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu when he ran for the Senate in the Lagos West senatorial district in 1991, Chief Ajomale said Obe has demonstrated integrity in his dealings with party leaders and embraced all groups with open arms.
He commended Bamigbetan for standing by the chairmanship candidate during the first campaign and still supporting him on the re-election campaign.
Chief Ajomale formally held Obe’s hand to endorse him.
As early as 10am on Friday, the APC leaders set out in two buses for Abeokuta, Ogun State to visit Chief Imran Taiwo.
The team arrived at 2pm and was well received by the octogenarian.
Bamigbetan once again made a speech extolling the virtues and achievements of Obe and seeking the blessing of Chief Taiwo.
Replying, Chief Taiwo went down memory lane recalling how Alhaji Nurudeen Obe, the late father of the chairman, was the most influential politician in Ejigbo in his days.
He praised Obe for building on the foundation he met on the ground by transforming the council secretariat, building the multipurpose centre, introducing welfare programmes and empowering various groups within the party.
“I am recommending Obe for second term based on what he has done. I urge him to deliver more when he gets the second term,” he said.
ECHONEWS learnt that the endorsement campaign is going to reach other critical stakeholders in and out of the constituency to ensure wide acceptance of Obe’s candidature and boost his popularity during the forthcoming primaries.
