Football was taken to another new level as Futsal Lagos came into being at the NIS Gymnasium Hall, national stadium, Surulere.
The event which involves exhibition games to launch Futsal football in Lagos and birth the Futsal Lagos league that’s expected to start in January 2023.
Futsal football known as street football in Nigeria is very common but it has never been taken as a career by most players unless it’s been played for fun across streets in the country on hard surface.
WLB Sport Limited is the brain behind this new initiative, speaking to ECHONEWS, the COO of WLB Sport Limited and co founder of Futsal Lagos, Abolaji Animashahun said the aim of Futsal Lagos is to put Futsal football in a more organized manner and encourage young lads to key into it.
“Futsal Lagos is born out of the need for football, we are here at the national stadium, Surulere, everyday of the week and you will find people playing football on any surface they can get access to and that’s pretty what Futsal is, football on hard surface.
“We can do it in a more organized manner and put in more panache about it.
“That’s why we came up with the idea of Futsal Lagos for young people that wants to go pro but may never get the chance and this is a viable alternative and we are here for the long run.”
3 exhibition games were played at the event to birth Futsal Lagos league.
Team Founder defeated Celebrity Team 6-4 in an enthralling encounter.
KidSport FC thrashed Sportellectual FC 5-2 in an entertaining manner.
Smart City and Kingspor FC played out a fascinating 3-3 draw.
