The Lagos Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) hosted the Fuji Fusion L’ori Omi, which aimed at unlocking the limitless opportunities on the state’s waterways.

 

Fuji Fusion L’ori Omi, which took place on the Lagos Waterway on Saturday 29th of June, brought together stakeholders in the tourism and entertainment industries to showcase the potential of the waterways as a hub for economic growth and development.

 

Fuji Fusion L’ori Omi, featured a lineup of Legendary Fuji musicians, including Alhaji Wasiu Alabi (Pasuma), Alhaji Sulaimon Adio (Atawewe), Alhaji Toyin Ololade (Mr. Performer), Biyi Omo mummy, and Alhaji Sulaimon Alao (Malaika).

 

Hon. Abdoulbaq Ladi Balogun, the Managing Director and CEO of Lagos State Ferry Services, expressed enthusiasm for the historic event taking place. He highlighted the significance of showcasing renowned artists in the music industry, emphasizing their role in promoting Lagos as a hub for water tourism.

Balogun underscored the importance of leveraging the vast water resources in Lagos State for economic development, with a particular focus on water transportation and the blue economy. The event, themed ‘Fuji Lori Omi,’ aimed to blend entertainment, tourism, and transportation to showcase the potential of Lagos’ waterways for hospitality, leisure, and economic growth.

 

Balogun emphasized the support and encouragement received from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to explore the untapped potential of Lagos’ water bodies. He noted that a significant portion of Lagos State is covered by water, prompting the need to maximize the benefits of the blue economy.

 

The focus on Fuji music for the event was a deliberate choice to highlight the traditional roots of Lagos and its rich cultural heritage.

The event served as a platform to not only showcase the talents of this Legendary Fuji artists but also to promote the diverse offerings of Lagos State in terms of tourism and entertainment.

He reiterated the importance of integrating creativity, tourism, and Blue economy in leveraging the water resources of Lagos for sustainable development. By bringing together artists, industry stakeholders, and Government support, the event aimed to raise awareness about the potential of water tourism and the economy in Lagos.

 

In conclusion Hon. Balogun said, “Today, we have the pleasure of hosting some of the biggest names in Fuji music, who will perform for us and showcase the rich cultural heritage of Lagos State.”

The lineup includes: – Alhaji Wasiu Alabi, popularly known as Pasuma, Alhaji Sulaimon Adio, aka Atawewe, Alhaji Toyin Ololade, aka Mr. Performer, Biyi Omo mummy, and Alhaji Sulaimon Alao, aka Malaika.

 

According to Mrs. Toke Benson, Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture in Lagos, “at least one-third of Lagos is water, and the best way to sell our tourism is to ensure people feel safe on our waterways.” She emphasized that the event was designed to demonstrate the various activities that can take place on the waterways, including parties, transportation, and work.

The event featured live music performances, local food and drinks, and other economic activities, highlighting the potential of the waterways to boost the local economy. Mrs. Benson encouraged private participants to partner with Lagos state Government to explore the possibilities of the waterways, citing previous successful events such as the football show held a few months ago.

 

Alhaji Wasiu Alabi ‘Pasuma,’ a Fuji artist, expressed his appreciation for the event organized by the Lagos State Government. He emphasized the importance of showcasing what Lagos has to offer to both residents and visitors. Pasuma highlighted the significance of starting the year by displaying the cultural richness of Lagos, Nigeria, and Africa.

 

He emphasized the need for Lagosians to take pride in their state and continue efforts to keep it clean and excellent. He specifically addressed the issue of improper waste disposal, highlighting the negative impact of refuse ending up in the sea.

Ambassador Sulaiman, popularly known as Atawewe, applauded the Lagos State Government for its innovative approach to showcasing the state’s cultural heritage.

He emphasized that safety is a top priority, with a focus on awareness, sensitization, and emergency response. “We’re committed to ensuring the safety of all users on the waterways, through ongoing awareness campaigns, sensitization programs, and a fleet of rescue boats ready to respond to any emergencies,” he explained.
