Nigerian actress Angela Okorie has reportedly been re-arrested over her alleged refusal to pay legal fees to the lawyer who secured her bail from Suleja Prison.
Okorie was re-arrested on Tuesday, shortly after she was released on bail, at the premises of the Suleja prison.
The development reportedly occurred less than an hour after actor Stanley Ontop raised the alarm over an alleged plan to re-arrest the actress following her release.
In a video shared on Instagram, actress Doris Ogala, who said she was on her way to the police station, alleged that Okorie was re-arrested by an unnamed Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) over a dispute relating to unpaid legal fees.
Ogala claimed that the SAN demanded a ₦5 million fee, which was allegedly agreed upon to facilitate Okorie’s bail, but the actress later declined to make the payment.
“You see, one thing is for someone to cut their clothes according to their size. Angela has been arrested again,” Ogala said.
“As a matter of fact, I’m going to the police station now. When Angela was arrested by Mercy, she contacted a friend to help her get a SAN. The SAN charged ₦5 million and facilitated the bail. However, after the bail was granted, Angela allegedly said she did not request a SAN and would not pay the money, even though the person who helped her had already deposited funds.”
DAILY POST further reported that Okorie had been granted bail on Friday following her arrest over alleged defamation involving fellow actress Mercy Johnson. She reportedly regained her freedom earlier on Tuesday after meeting her bail conditions, before the fresh arrest.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the police or legal representatives of the actress clarifying the circumstances surrounding the alleged re-arrest.
