Four Men On Trial Over Alleged Car Theft

A gang of four men is facing prosecution over accusations of stealing a car in Orile-Agege area, Lagos.
At the Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, the quartet identified as Odunlami Wale, Tajudeen Yekini, Salami Isiaka and Nurudeen Ogunmola, were accused of stealing a Toyota 4Runner SUV valued at N12,000,000.
The defendants were remanded in at the Nigerian Correctional Services, NCoS, over charges of conspiracy, stealing, and receiving stolen goods.
They pleaded not guilty.
Nevertheless, Police Prosecutor, Morufu Animashaun of the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Alagbon-Ikoyi, Lagos, said that the suspects stole the item which belongs to one Jiten Khemani – the complainant, on December 17, 2024.
Animashaun mentioned that their alleged offence violated Sections 411, 287, and 328 (1) & (2)(b) of the Criminal Law, Cap. C17 Vol. 3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The prosecutor sought for a trial date and urged the court to keep the defendants in prison pending determination of the case.
In response, the defensive counsel team headed by Semire Onifade, applied for bail of the litigants.
Onifade said that th gang had reliable sureties and would attend all court proceedings.
Presiding Magistrate, Ayoku Gbajumo, obliged the defendants bail in the sum of N1,000,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.
Gbajumo ruled that the sureties must reside in Lagos and must provide evidence of three years tax payments and show proof of means of livelihood.
Furthermore, the Magistrate ordered the prosecutor to verify the bail conditions before the defendants could be released.
The court adjourned the case till March 10.
