The Lagos State Government has held five residents for prosecution over contravention of environmental laws through illegal refuse dumping.
The violators were arrested at Ago Palace way in Okota, Isolo, on Tuesday while emptying their trash at the median road causing untidiness at the scene.
The state’s Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, identified the arrestees Sunday Chidiebere, Favour Odoh and Daniel Okunola all of age 20 alongside Michael Obi and Amaka Abel who are both 28 years of age.
The government disclosed that the offenders have been taken to the Mobile Court at Bolade, Oshodi for prosecution.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said that the enforcement is a testament to the government’s keen interest in ensuring that laws are obeyed in the state and also sensitize the residents on the need to improve the level of tidiness of the area.
Wahab warned the residents to imbibe cleanliness culture and adhere to the laws of the state as necessary sanctions await violators.
