Imo Strikers Queens youngster, Harmony Chidi is on cloud nine after scoring five goals in two games at the 2023 Ifeanyi Chiejine Memorial Cup (ICMC) in Asaba, Delta state capital.
The promising talent became the first player to score a hat-trick as Imo Strikers secured a 4-0 win against Awka Angels a few hours after the team’s arrival at the venue of the competition.
She also bagged two goals as her team earned a hard-fought 3-0 win over Greenfoot.
“I feel happy and excited. Everything in life has to do with God.” Harmony told the media after the presentation of the match ball for scoring a hat-trick.
“Without God, nothing is possible. I believe that it is God and my coach who has been advising me. Even when I was not doing well before coming to this tournament, I was not in form. She was there for me with words of encouragement to train hard. I promised her to make her proud during this tournament.”
As Imo Strikers prepare to face Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens in the repeat of last year’s final in the last game of the group, the teenager is confident of getting more honours at the tournament.
“It was the grace of God for me to score three goals a few hours after our arrival. God gave us the strength to do it.” She continued.
Harmony won the Most Valuable Player of the competition last year and hopes to win it again this year.
“I won the most valuable player of this tournament last year. This year, I am working towards winning it again and adding the highest goal scorer award to it.” She concluded.
The player with eyes for goals is a huge prospect for the national U-17 team and the U-20 side.
